Ammonia is mostly used in wafer cleaning and in the formation of thin films such as silicon nitride or gallium nitride during the CVD process. Liquid ammonia is widely used in the semiconductor industry, metallurgical industry, and other industries and scientific research that require a protective atmosphere.
Application of High Purity Ammonia
Synthetic ammonia is used to manufacture chemical raw materials such as nitrogen fertilizers
Industrial ammonia is used for ammonia decomposition to produce nitrogen and hydrogen mixed gas
Liquid ammonia is used as a refrigerant for ammonia refrigeration systems in power plants and other factories (R717)
Liquid ammonia for organic synthesis
High-purity ammonia gas is used as nitrogen source for LED electronics industry
High-purity ammonia, silane, and high-purity argon are used in the manufacture of thin-film solar cells
Precautions for High Purity Ammonia
High-purity ammonia is a highly corrosive and toxic substance, which has a strong corrosive effect on the skin and eyes, resulting in severe painful burns. High-purity ammonia vapor strongly stimulates respiratory mucous membranes and eyes, and has a suffocating effect on breathing. The skin damaged by high-purity ammonia should be rinsed with water immediately, and then wet compress with 3% to 5% boric acid, acetic acid or citric acid solution. In severe cases, seek medical attention immediately.
High-purity ammonia gas is inhaled into the human body, a small part is neutralized by carbon dioxide, and the rest enters the blood, which is mainly combined with hemoglobin, destroying the oxygen transport function of the blood. After inhaling a large amount of ammonia in a short period of time, there will be tears, sore throat, cough, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, dizziness, vomiting, fatigue, etc. If too much high-purity ammonia is inhaled, resulting in an excessively high concentration of ammonia in the blood, it will cause cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest through the reflex action of the trigeminal nerve endings, which is life-threatening.
Before using high-purity ammonia gas, nitrogen pressure test, helium gas pressure maintenance and soapy water leak test should be performed on the ammonia gas pipeline to ensure that the ammonia gas pipeline does not leak. Keep the working environment well ventilated. 2 people are required to operate at the same time to deal with emergencies.
There is a cylinder inspection time on the bottle neck of the ammonia gas cylinder, and the cylinders that do not meet the requirements should be commissioned by distributors such as Spectrum Gas to go to a qualified pressure vessel inspection unit for inspection. The use of past cylinders is strictly prohibited.
