Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a liquefied, colorless gas that can suffocate at high concentrations and is denser than air. Carbon dioxide comes from many different sources. It is available from natural carbon dioxide springs, limestone kilns, fermentation processes, and gas streams from chemical and petrochemical plants. It can also be captured from airflow emitted by power plants.
Carbon dioxide is a natural component of the Earth's atmosphere and exists at a concentration of 0.039%. The media's focus on greenhouse gases and their harmful effects on the climate obliterates the fact that they have many useful properties. Without carbon dioxide, there would be no plant life because, like sunlight, plants need carbon dioxide for photosynthesis for growth.
Carbon dioxide has many well-known applications in the food and beverage industry - as a filling gas for packaged foods. Dry ice, or solid carbon dioxide, is increasingly becoming a popular cryogenic refrigerant in mechanical refrigeration systems due to its non-polluting nature. Dry ice is also a very effective and environmentally friendly cleaning agent. For agriculture, carbon dioxide can promote the growth of greenhouse plants, as well as the feedstock used to produce bio-oil (green crude oil) algae. Dry ice (solid CO2) has a temperature of -78°C and can cause severe frostbite.
The non-flammability of carbon dioxide makes it a popular pressurized gas, from aerosols, fumigants to air guns. It also has many other uses - including as a component of medical resuscitation mixes, as a neutralizer for pH control, as an inert gas in mild steel welding, in compressed form as a replacement for blasting powder in quarrying and excavation operations used, as well as in solid form as a blasting agent.
Carbon dioxide can also be used as chemical vapor deposition, widely used in silica, active laser mixtures, Coleman nitrogen analyzers, foam blowing agents, pulp washing, automotive emissions monitoring and environmental monitoring, fire suppression, surgery and sterilization, Blood analysis, sample preparation, chromatography, and paint and varnish production.
We can ship carbon dioxide in gas, compressed and solid form in a variety of cylinders, ships and containers to meet your specific application needs.
